For any Chinese input method, when <caps lock> is on, 2-byte Roman and common punctuation/mark will be entered. For most of the input methods which utilize Roman keyboard layout, the Roman punctuation/mark normally is not a valid input key for Chinese input. In such a case, ascii punctuation/mark key will be translated automatically to 2-byte Roman as one types. For certain input method, notably the Zhu-Yin type of input method in Traditional Chinese module where ascii punctuation/mark keys are all valid input keys, <caps lock> will be the only way to switch between Chinese input and punctuation input.
