Preference Setting Overview
The Preferences dialog allows user to preset many features
for UniText and store these preferred settings in a Preference file. The
preference dialog contains many sections with related setting groups.
1) Feature Option:
The Feature Preference controls the text engine and input method feature.
-
Use Alignment popup menu to set the text alignment as align to left, align
to right, align to the center or align to adjust.
-
The check box Custom Input Method controls the font-custom input method
synchronization.
-
The check box Input with Association will enable the autosaving of the
association input method for each language codeset.
-
The check box Input with Wildcard will append a wildcard and therefore
force a wildcard search for all custom input method used. Korean
user should disable both association and wildcard option in Hangul inputting.
-
The check box XTND on Drag & Drop Files will enable the XTND input
when enabled or enable a HFS embedded file support when disabled.
-
The check box Use Inline Input Editing controls the text engine to take
advantage of inline input ability if you have any language kit installed.
-
The check box Intelligent Cut & Paste set the text engine to insert
a space before or after the inserting words depending of the context. This
feature should be disabled in any oriental language handling because it
tends to insert a space in any 2-byte character.
2) Styles Option:
The Styles Preference controls the default font and size.
3) Printing Option:
The Printing Preference controls the printing effect.
-
Margins adds some space inward from the edge.
-
If you want date and time stamp at the right header, check the "Print date
and time stamp".
-
If you want to print a page number at the footer, check the "Print pages
numbers".
-
If you want to print the document title at the left header, check the "Print
document title".
-
The line spacing is the separation between the line.
4) Layout Option:
The Layout Preference controls some parameters of window layout.
-
The text wrapping radio button allows user to set the text wrapping
feature. The text can have a no fix field size (no wrapping) or it can
be scaled as the window re-sizes (auto wrapping).
-
If you decide to use the real tab display, check the Tabs Display check
box and also select the tab width.
-
Sometimes, for the purpose of text alignment, you can use a fixed number
of spaces as tabs. This is done by selecting the Tab Inserts radio button.
-
If you want to change the file that you ever opened to UniText file, check
the "Change File "creator" to UCED. Similarly if you set the creator type
to others, e.g., ttxt the file can then be opened directly by SimpleText.
Only file with "UCED" as creator can be opened by UniText via double clicking.
-
If you would like to maintain the same window size and position when you
open the document next time, check the "Remember size and position".
-
If you want UniText present a standard "open file.." dialog instead of
a blank new document after launching, check the "Present Open dialog at
startup.
5) Encoding Option:
The Special Preference handles some features available only for oriental
2-byte language(CJK).
-
Enable the "HZ code" to alter the char/line field. This breaks the HZ coded
Chinese at the designated length. This is specially helpful you would like
to send the HZ code to a terminal program. It is found that 61 char/line
(28 2-byte characters) gives very good result for 80 char/line terminal
display.
-
Enable the "Auto Filter External HZ code" if you want UniText automatically
convert HZ coded Chinese into GB as internal code, or automatically convert
text when copying and pasting. This feature disables the handling of picture
or sound object in the scrap board and only text can be handled. It is
useful as an external viewer/editor for IRC hanzi channel. If you would
like UniText to handle picture and sound through scrap board, disable
this feature.
-
The "Auto Filter External JIS code" check box allows the UniText to automatically
convert between internal code (EUC or Shift-JIS code) and external
code (JIS code) during open, save, save as, cut and paste command operation.
If the check box is enabled, when a text in either Shift-JIS is copied,
and pasted in other application, the text is converted to JIS format transparently.
Similarly, a block of JIS format text will be converted into Shift-JIS
when opening a file or pasting text. This feature disables the handling
of picture or sound object in the scrap board and only text can be handled.
-
Enable the "Auto Filter External ISO-2022 code" if you want UniText automatically
convert ISO coded Hangul into KS5601 as internal code, or automatically
convert text when copying and pasting. This feature disables the handling
of picture or sound object in the scrap board and only text can be handled.
-
Enable Microsoft Unicode 2.1 mapping table to use Microsoft's standard
in Unicode<->CJK conversion. Otherwise, use Apple's Text Encoding Converter
(TEC) or Apple's Unicode 2.1 mapping table for Unicode<->CJK conversion.
6) Images Option:
The image Preference controls the options in image input/output.
-
Check use Quicktime if you want to use Quicktime in JPEG compression/decompression.
If quicktime is not installed, the JPEG compression will be through Independent
Group's JPEG codes.
-
The JPEG compression quality field gives you control over the JPEG file
compression ratio and quality. For normal image output, 75-90 should be
enough. Above 90, there is no visual improvement while the file size goes
huge.
-
To save memory in view pictures, the "view picture using codec" should
be checked, although the picture quality will be degraded.
-
"Auto detect image format" will enable UniText first test the image format
before opening it. This is recommended.
7) Languages Option:
Language Option controls the loading of fbit CJK fonts when Worldscript
II is not installed in user's system. These options are disabled when Worldscript
II is loaded.
-
Check "Use PanALE fbit Bitmap Font" check box if user would like UniText
to use custom fbit font handling to display CJK.
-
User may also control the languages supports through the check box before
the four languages.
8) Special Option:
Special Option controls the conversion of Elegance series CJK truetype
fonts to 1-byte text/font.
-
Choose the "Space saving 1-byte CJK font format" if you just want to use
PDFWriter to generate CJK PDF file.
-
Choose the "More compatible 1-byte CJK font format" if you would like to
use the font for general purpose.
